Five Minutes To Fame

I was walking back to my seat after a coffee break. A colleague of mine walked past me saying 'Pradeep your hack idea and the presentation was good'. Not one or two, but many in the company started appreciating the smallest presentation i ever gave in my professional life.

4:30PM 2nd of April 2013, a small gathering to award people who presented good ideas for the new project, was about to start. As we were waiting for the announcement of the winners, the person beside me congratulated saying, 'you may get an award'. He continued saying, 'i heard one of the judge saying, your presentation was one of the Wackiest'.

The award ceremony started;a senior leader told that the judges had a tough time in deciding the best idea. Finally 3 best ideas were awarded.

There was one more award the judges wanted to give. The award for best presentation; an award for the ability to build a story to explain the requirement/idea.

Audience who do you think the winner is, any guesses?

I could hear few saying 'Pradeep.... Pradeep..... Vidhyavantha presentation.....'

Yes they were right!!!!

My name was called and i received the award for the best presentation. Everybody holds the right to surprise themselves; yes how true it is. I did surprise myself by winning the award for the shortest presentation i ever made in my life.

Though i would love to put up the deck here, due to confidentiality i have to refrain myself from doing it.

Now it feels happy to recollect what happened on 22nd March 2013:

3:30PM 22nd March 2013, i was given 5 mins to present my idea. And was also told if i could complete in 3 minutes, i will get a bonus point. A big hall with many executive waiting to hear my idea, i started my presentation without a microphone in my hand. 10 slides and a small story to explain.

I had two characters in my story; Vidhyavantha and Buddhivantha. The story revolves round the 'vacation plan'.

My presentation got over in 4 minutes 59 seconds. As i was walking out of the room, many folks came up-to me and said, 'Your presentation was good'. Little did i realize that day, that these two lifeless characters ,'Vidhyavantha and Buddhivantha', brought me to so much fame in 5 minutes.

There are few things in life which cannot happen twice. I doubt if this kind of a presentation can ever come out from me again. By far this qualifies as the best ever short presentation i have made in my professional life.
